The Rodange works were founded in 1872 under the name Société Anonyme
des Hauts-Fourneaux de Rodange.
In
1905 the Rodange mill became part of the Belgian steel company
Ougrée-Marihaye.
In
1907 a steel mill and two rolling mills were added and the number of
blast furnaces was increased to 5.
In
1936 the name was changed to
S.A. Minière et
Métallurgique de Rodange.
In 1970 a
new OBM oxygen melt shop was built supplying steel to three rolling
mills.
The
Rodange site joins the Belgian steel company Usine d’Athus and is
renamed
S.A. Métallurgique et Minière de Rodange- Athus.
1978, takeover by ARBED from Luxemburg
and closure of all blast furnaces and the OBM mill one year later.
Shut down of the wire rolling mill in
1983.
The Aciéries
Rodange-Schifflange
are part of the ArcelorMittal group today.
Two rolling mills survived in Rodange:
Rolling mill A (modernized in 2007)
produces sections like sheet pile for the construction industry.
Rolling mill C rolls (reinforced)
bars.
Mill C is now temporarily closed and
the sections mill is down to two shifts.
